Update: Public meeting on hobby farm rules

7 May 2026

The Township is continuing its review of hobby farm rules with a public meeting on May 26, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.

The proposed changes reflect community feedback and Council direction, with the goal of making the process for starting a hobby farm less restrictive, more streamlined, and considerate of neighbours.

Based on feedback received, in general terms, the revisions include:

  • removing a fixed limit on pigs and instead requiring a siting assessment when higher numbers are proposed
  • allowing more flexibility for additional poultry through a planning permit, where appropriate
  • allowing smallscale, onsite farmgate sales as part of a hobby farm

The meeting will be held in person and online. Residents are welcome to attend or share comments.

A staff report will be available on the Township website on or after May 19, 2026.
