Logging Chain Lodge Property: Review of Existing Buildings and Next Steps

29 September 2025

Buildings

Staff recently shared a report with Council about the Logging Chain Lodge property purchase, noting that the existing buildings were being reviewed.

After assessing the condition and potential uses, staff have found that the buildings are not suitable for Township repurposing, maintenance, or management. Most of the buildings were constructed in as late as the 1950s and updating them to meet Township or public needs would be impractical and costly. While they are well-suited for resort use, they do not align with the future parkland uses identified in past community planning and engagement.

Following the township’s procurement policy, the buildings are being sold through an auction for government surplus assets. Selling the buildings will save the township tens of thousands of dollars in removal fees.

Additionally, some of the buildings may be used temporarily by the fire department for valuable training exercises before they are removed.

Engagement Timeline

A full public engagement process to collect feedback on development options for the parkland is planned to begin next year 2026. A design consultant is scheduled to be brought on board in the third quarter of 2026, with final designs to be presented to Council in early 2027.
